- The new eight-story tower houses BSL-2 laboratories, special laboratories for imaging and specialized scientific equipment, rodent holding areas, administrative and scientific offices, collaborative spaces, building support facilities and enclosed pedestrian bridges to adjacent buildings and existing vivariums.
- OMRF’s tower is the first medical research facility in North America to harness the wind to help power its labs and features 24 wind turbines generating 58,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, an energy management system to cut electricity usage, and a living roof and rain garden to prevent runoff and insulate the building.
- The facility saves the equivalent of 44,470 gallons of gasoline each year, cutting CO2 emissions by more than 2 million pounds.
- This project is LEED® Gold certified.
