| American Indian heritage. Oklahoma was still known as
Indian Territory when the company that became Flintco
was founded by C. W. Flint. Keeping with its beginnings,
Flintco was, and is today, a privately-held American
Indian-owned company and is now in its third generation
of Flint family ownership.
As the largest American Indian contractor in the
world, it is no surprise that Flintco has been involved
in the construction of hundreds of projects for many
of our nation’s American Indian tribes. Working
closely with our American Indian clients requires
understanding each tribe’s distinct culture.
Flintco achieved its’ first Tribal Employment
Rights Certification in 1991 and has proceeded to
receive certifications from many other tribes.
In 2004, The Flintco Companies, Inc. received the
National Minority Business Advocate of the Year award
from the U.S. Department of Commerce for outstanding
performance in the service industry and excellent
service to the minority community. In 2005 and 2000 Flintco
was awarded the prestigious U.S. Department of Commerce,
National Minority Construction Firm of the Year.
Flintco has constructed a diverse portfolio of project
types on reservations across the country. This includes
schools, healthcare facilities, casinos, retail centers
and community centers. We work closely with each tribal
entity to optimize participation of its tribal members
in the project construction process and to achieve
maximum federal support. Each of these projects is
unique and gets our special attention which is a
reflection of Flintco’s
pride in our own American Indian heritage. These projects
have enabled us to work with, and establish relationships
with a number of different Tribes, Pueblos and Indian
Nations.
Flintco’s commitment to encouraging Indian
economic growth goes beyond simply hiring American
Indian employees. With our
experience and stability, we choose to enter “mentoring“ relationships" with
smaller, American Indian companies. Flintco works diligently
to encourage and utilize the involvement of local American
Indian craftspeople in our projects. We have always
prided ourselves in being sensitive to traditional
values and meeting the various nations’ cultural
needs. Our Construction Management delivery method
is especially conducive to this relationship, which
includes the Nations as a team member and involves
the community from beginning to end.
Training and employment opportunities. The
Flintco Companies actively seeks opportunities to
hire American Indian and other minority contractors
and workers. We make every effort to hire American
Indian workers on all American Indian projects. One
of our goals is to employ and train tribal members
in the construction trade. Through our training programs,
we have enabled workers on carpentry and other crafts. Click
