History

In the beginning … In 1908, Tulsa Rig, Reel & Manufacturing Co. (TRR) began supplying wooden oilfield rigs and derricks during Oklahoma’s oil boom in the early 1900s. C.W. Flint, Sr. joined TRR in 1911, and by 1919, he and a partner owned the company. The Tulsa-based company grew with the oil business, and established lumberyards in oilfields, entered the construction business and expanded into general building contracting with the purchase of the Fornier Construction Company in 1936.

C.W. “Bill” Flint, Jr. took over operations after the death of his father in 1950.  His heritage as a Cherokee Indian on his mother’s side was to play a key role in the company’s future.  When WWII rocked the world, the construction arm of the company built major military training centers.

When the building boom of the post-war 1950s created an unprecedented demand for general contracting services, the company expanded with new locations to meet the needs of growing communities and divested of its oil field lumberyards. In 1972, Bill Flint consolidated TRR and Fornier under a new operating name for the construction company, Flintco, Inc., which it retains today.

In the 1980s, the company expanded its services and geographic areas. It established Oakridge Builders, Inc. in 1983 as an extension of the nationally-respected construction services of Flintco, Inc. and both companies were grouped under the parent company, The Flintco Companies, Inc. Oakridge Builders, Inc. has since carved its niche in the general construction market while Flintco, Inc. has focused primarily on providing professional construction services for large, complex projects.

C.W. “Bill” Flint, Jr. passed away in 2001 and his children have followed in his footsteps, with the company firmly established and in its third generation of private, family ownership.

The Flintco Companies, Inc. now ranks as the largest American Indian-owned construction company and one of the largest commercial contractors in the nation. The Flintco Companies’ operating divisions provide a full range of construction services, including pre-construction, construction management, design/build, program and project management, as well as general contracting from nine offices in: Albuquerque, N.M.; Austin, Texas; Memphis, Tenn.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Sacramento, Calif.; Springdale, Ark.; Springfield, Mo.; and two offices in Tulsa, Okla.

The Tulsa division has been involved in construction of some of the key landmark structures in the area, including the Mid-Continent Tower, First Place Tower, Bank of Oklahoma Tower/One Williams Center, Asbury United Methodist Church, the University of Tulsa’s Donald W. Reynolds Arena, Vision 2025’s Tulsa Regional Events and Convention Center, David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center, the Tulsa County Fairgrounds and many more.

With a well-deserved reputation as a provider of “constructive solutions,” The Flintco Companies is consistently selected as the contractor of choice by clients with construction needs in the areas of healthcare, corporate, education, office, sports, corrections, hospitality, utilities, governmental, and not-for-profit facilities.
